Monkey with Banana Keychain
Do you need a small project for a craft market this summer? Look at this little keychain! Isn’t it the cutest little monkey you’ve ever seen?!

This easy-to-follow, quick pattern is generously offered by our blog guest, Natalia from @natalie.toys_ on Instagram. I am always looking for the best patterns to share with you. And when I came across Natalia’s newly released monkey pattern, I instantly fell in love with it! And I was so happy when she accepted my invitation to a blog. I am pleased to share this awesome pattern with you, my dear friends.
This pattern, made with a thinner #2 or #3 yarn will make a great addition to your keychain inventory for markets. Or you can use a plush yarn of different weights to make a cute monkey toy.
Tools and Materials

Recommended hooks are 2 mm for the monkey and 1.75 mm for the banana. But you may use a hook that suits your tension better. Also, have a tapestry needle, fiberfill, and keychain ring.
Yarnart Jeans Yarn:
#03 Milky (for face)
#69 Green (for the bottom tip of the banana)
#70 Dark Brown (for the top tip of the banana)
#35 Yellow or #67 Yellow (for banana) or Alize Cotton Gold #110
* For the main part of the banana, the designer recommends Alize Cotton Gold, which will make the bananas smaller. But if you have difficulty finding this type of yarn, you can always substitute it with Yarnart Jeans color #35 or color #67.
Abbreviations

- MR – Magic Ring
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- inc – increase
- dec – decrease
- sl st – slip stitch
- bo – bobble stitch * Please refer to the explanation of bobble stitch below since it is made not as standard, common bobble stitch, but revised to get a desirable shape.
*Pay attention to the change of color throughout the pattern.
Bobble Stitch Explained
4 half-made treble crochets made in the same stitch, connected with one top stitch, ch.
Yarn over twice, insert the hook into the next stitch, pull out a loop, yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, pull through two. Repeat 3 more times. Now, you should have 5 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops. Secure the bobble with a ch 1.
Head and Body
1 rnd: 10 sc into the MR (10)
2 rnd: 10 inc (20)
3 rnd: (1 sc, inc) *10 (30)
4 rnd: 11 sc bo, 6sc, bo 11 sc (32)
5-8 rnds: 30 sc (4 rounds) *In round 5, skip ch on the bo, do not crochet into ch on the top of bo (If you have a hard time with any parts of the pattern, please refer to the youtube video)!
9 rnd: 10 sc bo, 9sc, bo, 9 sc (32)
10 rnd: (1 sc, dec)*10 (20) *In round 10, skip ch on the bo, do not crochet into ch on the top of bo
11 rnd: 20 inc (40)
Now it is time to change colors. The best way to do it is to make a single crochet halfway and finish it with a new color. (Insert the hook, yarn over, pull out a loop, yarn over with a new color, and pull through two loops on the hook).

IMPORTANT: The stitch with the change of color is counted as the first stitch of a new color.
12 rnd: Brown 18 sc, Milky 5 sc, Brown 17 sc (40)
13 rnd: Brown 17 sc, Milky 8 sc, Brown 15 sc (40)
14 rnd: Brown 17 sc, Milky 9 sc, Brown 14 sc (40)
15 rnd: Brown 17 sc, Milky 9 sc, Brown 14 sc (40)
16 rnd: Brown 18 sc, Milky 8 sc, Brown 14 sc (40)
17 rnd: Brown 19 sc, Milky 2 sc, Brown 3 sc, Milky 2sc, Brown 14 sc (40)
18 rnd: (8 sc, dec) *4 (36)
19 rnd: (4 sc, dec) *6 (30)
20 rnd: (3 sc, dec) *6 (24)
At this point, starting stuffing your monkey would be a good idea.
21 rnd: (2 sc, dec) *6 (18)
22 rnd: (1 sc, dec) *6 (12)
23 rnd: 6 dec (6)

Cut the yarn. Insert the hook through the front loops of all 6 stitches and tighten the hole. Weave in the ends.
Ears

1 rnd: 6 sc into MR (6)
2 rnd: 6 inc (12)
Cut the yarn, leaving a longer tail for sewing. Sew on the ears between the 15th and 17th rounds.
Embroider the eyes and the nose.

Tail

Attach the yarn at the back bottom center between the 5th
and 6th rounds. Ch 8. Starting from the 2nd ch from the hook,
7inc, sl st. Fasten off and cut the yarn. Weave in the end.
Banana

Ch 18. Begin crocheting from the 2nd ch from the hook. Crochet in turning rows.
1 rnd: 2 sl st, 13 hdc, 2 sl st. (17)
2-11 rnds: ch 1, 2 sl st, 13 hdc, 2 sl st (10 rounds)
Fold the detail and crochet, inserting the hook into both layers:
2 sl st, (2 sc, dec) *3, sc, 2 sl st. Stuff the detail as you go.
Fasten off and cut the yarn. Weave in the ends.
Attach the green yarn to the bottom end of the banana and crochet 7 sc around. Fasten off and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing. Insert the hook through the front loops of all 7 stitches and tighten the hole. Weave in the ends.
Attach the brown yarn to the top end of the banana and crochet 3 rounds of 7 sc. Fasten off and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing. Insert the hook through the front loops of all 7 stitches and tighten the hole. Weave in the ends.
